I got up this morning at 5:30 to make a short pit stop before eking out another hour of sleep – or so I thought. Upon flushing, I heard what sounded like a waterfall and quickly realized I was filled to overflowing, and not in a spiritual way. Someone clogged the toilet, and it wasn’t me. I’ll leave it at that. I asked our Golden Retriever, Tucker, about it later and he had no comment.
After scrambling around to mop up the bathroom AND basement floors, I realized that the much-desired extra hour of sleep was not to be. I was wide awake.
But … God had other plans.
He led me to read Paul’s letter in Colossians 1 and take some notes. The context of verse 9 was exactly what God wanted to communicate and have me pray this morning as Paul did for the people of Colossae, even though he had never met them.
“And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.” (ESV)
Now that’s the kind of filling I need and want.
The prayer that Paul prayed for God’s people is exactly what each of us as Christ-followers needs every waking moment of the day. To … “be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.”
Pray that prayer with me today and be filled to overflowing my friend. The kind of filling that only comes from an intimate relationship with God.
And that’s the Memo.
