If AI Can Do It, Why Not You? | The Mid-Week Memo | December 18, 2024

Allegedly, Hudhayfa Nazoordeen, a math student at the University of Waterloo built a functioning nuclear fusion reactor in his bedroom with no prior hardware experience. His secret? An AI chatbot.

In just four weeks, Nazoordeen went from novice to nuclear engineer, using the power of Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 AI chatbot to navigate fusion technology.

“I fed Claude all my datasheets, and it helped a ton with this,” he explained, explaining how AI bridged his knowledge gaps in real-time.

The journey began with sourcing components online to assemble a mini fusor that resembles professional tokamak reactors. Nazoordeen’s AI-guided approach allowed him to overcome challenges that typically require years of expertise, such as creating a vacuum system capable of reaching 25 millionths of an atmosphere.

“This was by far the most annoying part of this project,” Nazoordeen admitted, describing the painstaking process of hunting down tiny leaks. Yet, with Claude’s assistance, he was able to diagnose and solve every issue that came up.

The result? A functioning plasma generator,— all achieved in a month, from a college student’s bedroom.

Whether an accurate description of actual events or not, some of you might be disturbed by this story knowing the implications in a world made up of all sorts of “bad actors”.

I’m looking at it from a Creator God’s perspective. He’s the God of infinite intelligence who created man in His image. He then challenged us to fill the earth and take dominion over all creation and multiply His image around the globe. He gave us incredible skills and abilities to create. After the “fall” the plan got hijacked and sin reined in each of us. What God intended for good the enemy now distorts and alters for evil, including the potential use of AI for nefarious reasons. But some of Artificial Intelligence capabilities are being used for the good of society and mankind.

We know the end of the story; God prevails and each of us are held accountable to Him for our actions in this life. My challenge to each of you – seek His wisdom, His calling, and His intelligence in making every decision in the context of His will for your life.

And that’s the mid-week memo.
Steve
