🎙️EP144. From Prison to Purpose | David Garlock’s Journey of Justice and Redemption

by David Garlock & Steve Adams

What happens when a story of unimaginable trauma becomes a testimony of radical grace?

In this gripping and redemptive conversation, Steve sits down with David Garlock—a formerly incarcerated criminal justice reform advocate and reentry expert—whose life was forever changed by tragedy… and then by Christ.

At age 19, David and his brother took the life of their abuser, leading to a 25-year sentence in Alabama. But in the depths of prison, David encountered the love of Jesus. His transformation sparked a new mission: to fight for justice, advocate for the incarcerated, and walk alongside others on the path to healing.

In this episode, you’ll hear:
* David’s harrowing childhood and the trauma that shaped him
* The turning point when he met Jesus in a jail cell
* How he earned his GED, a theology degree, and a bachelor’s from Eastern University
* His current advocacy work in reentry, justice reform, and prison education
* What the Church can do to love returning citizens well

David also shares about his connection to Just Mercy and Equal Justice Initiative founder Bryan Stevenson, including his role in the film.

This is a story of heartbreak, hope, and the God who restores.
