Pursue What Matters Most | The Mid-Week Memo | January 29, 2025

In the book of Romans, the Apostle Paul pleads with Christians to offer their entire lives to God in response to His extraordinary sacrifice. Jesus gave His life so we could experience His boundless love and grace. When we refuse to align our lives with how Jesus lived, we diminish the value of His incredible gift.
To give our lives fully to God, we must make Him our ultimate pursuit—above everything else.
Here are five practical steps you can take today to help prioritize God in your life:

  1. Give Thanks
“We give thanks to you, O God; we give thanks, for your name is near. We recount your wondrous deeds.”
    —Psalms 75:1 ESV
Take a moment to pause and express gratitude to God for what He has already done in your life. Reflect on His faithfulness and the many ways His power has been evident in your story. Recalling His wondrous deeds reminds us of His nearness and care.
  1. Spend 5 Minutes in Silence
“Abide in me, and I in you.”
    —John 15:4 ESV
Abiding in Jesus begins with stillness. Set aside five minutes to sit quietly, take deep breaths, and release anything that is weighing on your heart. As you quiet your soul, focus on the presence of the One who matters most. This intentional stillness creates space for God to meet you where you are.
  1. Remember Whose You Are
“You are not your own, for you were bought with a price.”
    —1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV
You belong to God. The price He paid for you was His very life. Let that truth sink in and reflect on how deeply loved you are. Take time to remember what God says about you in His Word—you are chosen, redeemed, and cherished.
  1. Meditate on God’s Word
“Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.”
    —Psalms 119:97 ESV
One of the most effective ways to discover how Jesus calls us to live is by spending time in Scripture. Open your Bible, and invite God to reveal His heart to you. Ask Him to guide you in understanding His will and to transform your thoughts as you meditate on His Word.
  1. Focus on What Is Excellent
“…If there is any excellence … think about these things.”
    —Philippians 4:8 ESV
You have been given the mind of Christ. When unsure of what to focus on, ask yourself: What is praiseworthy? What thoughts, attitudes, and actions would honor God? Write down whatever comes to mind, and commit to pursuing those things.

By consistently practicing these five steps, you can develop habits that deepen your intimacy with God and help you place Him at the center of your life. As you pursue what matters most, you’ll find your life aligning with the abundant love and grace Jesus offers.

And that’s the mid-week memo.
